Our Story
Founded by collectors, for collectors. Every piece in our inventory carries the weight of history — a tangible connection to the soldiers, conflicts, and moments that shaped our world.
Richmond, Virginia
How It Started
Brass & History was founded in 2018 by Marcus Webb, a third-generation military history enthusiast and former range safety officer with over 20 years of experience handling and cataloguing spent military ammunition.
What began as a personal collection of WWI and WWII casings traded at shows and estate sales quickly grew into something larger — a community of like-minded collectors who understood that these small, brass cylinders are far more than mere metal. They are primary sources of history.
Today, Brass & History ships to collectors in all 50 states and operates with a team of 8 specialists, researchers, and packers who share one goal: to connect history enthusiasts with authentic, properly documented pieces.
What Drives Us
Everything we do is guided by these principles.
Every item is researched, cross-referenced with historical records, and verified before listing. We stake our reputation on the authenticity of every piece we sell.
We believe these artifacts deserve to be preserved and shared — not discarded or forgotten. Our work ensures they reach the people who will appreciate and care for them.
We're collectors ourselves. We understand what you're looking for, how you want items described, and the joy of finding that elusive piece to complete a collection.
Every historical piece comes with full provenance documentation. We tell you exactly where each item came from, what it is, and how it was sourced.
We work exclusively with licensed range clearance companies, military estate liquidators, and established collectors. Our entire supply chain is documented and above board.
Questions about an item's history, caliber, or era? Our team of specialists is available to help. We respond to all inquiries within one business day.
Our Journey
Marcus Webb lists his first 50 items on an online marketplace — a collection of WWII-era casings from a Virginia estate. All 50 items sell within 72 hours. The demand is clear.
Brass & History moves into its first dedicated facility in Richmond, VA. The team grows to 3 people. A formal provenance documentation process is established.
The dedicated e-commerce site launches with 400+ SKUs. Within 6 months, over 3,000 orders are fulfilled. Collector communities take notice.
Brass & History formalizes partnerships with 12 certified military training ranges, ensuring a consistent, responsibly-sourced supply of once-fired casings.
The 10,000th order is shipped — a matched pair of 1917 WWI casings to a veteran collector in Maine. The team celebrates with a company-wide collectors' showcase.
A dedicated research team is established to improve provenance accuracy. New headstamp database launched, allowing collectors to look up manufacturer codes and production dates.

Our Process
Our 5-step authentication process ensures that every item listed on Brass & History meets our strict standards for accuracy and documentation.
We verify the origin of all material — range clearances, estate provenance, or collector transfers — before acquisition.
Each casing's headstamp markings are cross-referenced against manufacturer records, COTW databases, and historical production archives.
Items are graded using standardized collector condition codes and photographed under controlled lighting.
Historical context is researched and written for all items. Rare finds receive full provenance documents.
Every item is physically inspected to confirm it is 100% spent and inert before packing and shipping.
Browse over 2,400 authenticated items — from everyday once-fired brass to rare pieces from the World Wars.
